Catalogue Note

Rare:
First editions of Lassus's motets, arguably the most important part of his oeuvre, are increasingly rare on the market; indeed we have no record of any part from this edition appearing at auction.   It contains the first publication of the twelve-part motet 'Laudate Dominum omnes gentes', for which this volume supplies both the first and tenor parts. There are also first editions of the six-part motets 'Quare tristis est',  'Jam non dicam vos servos', and early editions of several other motets first published in 1568 or 1570.
