Catalogue Note

Rare:We can trace only a single record of any contemporary editions of Gombert appearing at auction since the Second World War (a single part-book from the first edition of 1539). In libraries, RISM lists only two complete sets of the present edition outside Italy.

Nicolas Gombert was "one of the three most important composers of sacred polyphony in the period between Josquin and Lassus" (G. Reese, Music in the Renaissance, 1959, p.343).
