Condition

Executed on paper, very probably laid down on paper. The sheet is fixed to the mount at various points. The edges are slightly irregular. A close inspection reveals some scattered repaired tears. The most important of which are a vertical one and a sinuous diagonal one which are visible just above the centre of the composition, and two horizontal ones, running from the right edge and in the background of the lower part of the composition. There are some scattered flattened creases visible at the centre of the upper left edge and in the upper left and lower corners. Apart from some scattered media marks and time-staining, this work is in stable condition.

Catalogue Note

« Qui suis-je ? D'ou viens-je ?
Je suis Antonin Artaud
Et que je le dise
Comme je sais le dire
Immédiatement
Vous verrez mon corps actuel
Voler en éclats
Et se ramasser sous dix mille aspects
Notoires
Un corps neuf
Où vous ne pourrez plus jamais m'oublier. »

Antonin Artaud, "Post scriptum" in Pour en finir avec le jugement de Dieu, 1948
