Description

  • porcelain
of waisted cylindrical form flaring at the rim, painted with a scholar reclining by the shore in a river landscape, accompanied by a poetic inscription followed by two seals, the base with an apocryphal six-character Jiajing mark within a double-circle; together with a blue and white mustard pot painted with lotus sprays

Chinese Ceramics of the Transitional Period (circa 1620-1680 A.D.) from the Collection of Mr & Mrs Peter Thompson, Hull University, Hull, 1985, cat. nos 91 and 98.

Condition

The brush pot: three chips and one crack to foot ring; small glaze flake to rim; star crack to interior, faintly visible to exterior (approximately 10mm). Minor firing imperfections. The mustard pot: glaze flake (5mm); minor firing imperfections; otherwise in good condition.
