- porcelain
one of square form, decorated with a lady holding a lantern, the base with a four-character mark reading Cheng xi bao er; the other of rectangular section, painted with hen and chicks in a bamboo grove
Provenance
Purchased in Hong Kong, 18th December 1975 (square box).
Exhibited
From the Tang to the Qing: Chinese Ceramics from circa 618-1850 A.D. from the Collection of Dr. and Mrs. Peter Thompson, Hull University, Hull, 1996, cat. nos 58 and 59.
Condition
The larger box with two rim cracks (visible only to interior). The cover with four rim chips (the largest 6mm) and a rim crack.
The smaller box with glaze flakes to rims and covers; a short firing crack to foot and other minor firing imperfections.
