each modelled on archaic bronze shapes, comprising a gu-shaped beaker vase decorated with bow-string lines and a pear-shaped vase encircled with raised fillets, inscribed to the base with a two-character mark reading Shang zhi

Sotheby's Hong Kong, 26th/27th November 1976, lot 77 (pear-shaped vase).

Exhibited

Chinese Ceramics of the Transitional Period (circa 1620-1680 A.D.) from the Collection of Mr & Mrs Peter Thompson, Hull University, Hull, 1985, cat. nos 35 and 40.

Condition

Gu-shaped vase: two restored areas to rim measuring 23mm and 65mm, with a glaze flake to raised central rib; minor firing imperfections. The pear-shaped vase: in good condition.
