Description
of slightly waisted cylindrical form, the exterior painted in various shades of cobalt with a continuous scene depicting two scholars in a grassy landscape, watching the God of Examination Kui Xing performing a dance, one scholar seated at an altar table next to an attendant raising a ruyi sceptre, another servant standing behind holding the reins of a horse, beside a waterfall enshrouded in ribbony clouds, the other scholar dressed in long flowing robes and carrying a scroll next to a large overhanging willow tree, all between two incised bands of composite floral scrolls at the rim and foot, the interior of the mouthrim and the base left unglazed
Condition
The brushpot is in very good condition with only a few pale iron spots and expected minor imperfections in the glaze.
