Description
of ogee form, the rounded sides rising from a straight foot to a barbed everted rim, finely decorated around the exterior with a continuous scene depicting a large country residence in a mountainous landscape, the walled compound formed of storeyed pavilions and houses built among trees and shrubs, below ranges of pines on top of the mountains and swirling clouds in the distance, the reverse with two figures crossing a stone bridge overlooking a misty lake, the rim inscribed in clerical script (lishu) with a Tang dynasty poem, followed by the characters Tang, Bai Letian ('Bai Letian, Tang dynasty'), and two seals reading gupo ('Quaintness') and wo si guren ('My mind is with the ancients'), the base centred with an iron-red six-character seal mark
Condition
There are two minor original nicks to the glaze at the rim beneath the gilding, an original firing crack on the foot ring and rubbing to the gilding around the lobed rim but overall, the bowl is in quite good condition.
