Description

the shield-shaped body of rectangular section carved in relief on each side with a taotie mask formed by stylised dragons, beneath a waisted pendent leaf lappets and flanked on all four sides by lion mask handles set with loose rings, all raised on a waisted foot with mock lion mask-and-ring plaques, the cover surmounted by a finial in the form of a ferocious mythical beast, the pale mottled green stone with some light rivering of emerald green and white, a patch of russet enhancing the head and back of the beast, wood stand

Condition

There is a small bruise to the rim of the vase (approx. 0.8 cm) and a shallow bruise with minor nibbles to the lower section of either side (approx. 0.4 cm each). The tail of the beast on the cover was restuck. Apart from occasional very minute nibbles, the overall condition is quite good. The actual colour is slightly paler than the catalogue illustration.
