Provenance

An old Japanese collection, formed before the Second World War.

Condition

The censer and cover are overall in very good condition with the exception of some tiny nicks to the mane of one of the lion-head handles. The actual colour is paler than the catalogue photograph. A small section of the inner lip of the cover has possibly been slightly polished down.
