A BROWN AND WHITE JADE CARVING OF A RECUMBENT DEER QING DYNASTY, 17TH / 18TH CENTURY

Estimate
380,000 - 420,000 HKD
bidding is closed

Description

carved with its head sharply turned back, its body slumped slightly to one side, resting on its tucked legs spreading its hooves, a bushy tail wrapped around its left flank, finely detailed with its horns curved back atop its head, a gentle face, and billowing veils draped around his haunches, the smoothly polished stone with brown veining and russet inclusions

Condition

There is a small patch of lighter colour (0.2 cm), possibly a bruise, to the right cheek of the animal. It is otherwise in overall good condition with the exception of very minor bruises to the edges of both of the right hooves. There are natural white mottling, calcified pale brown areas and russet veining in the stone. The actual colour is slightly more tinged with celadon than the catalogue illustration.
