Description

the figure seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus petal pedestal, the elegant face with gentle features and an urna on the forehead, framed by a five-leaf diadem inlaid with turquoise and hardstones surrounding a high chignon, embellished with a beaded necklace and bejewelled earrings inlaid with turquoise, his right hand in vitarka mudra, both hands holding the stems of leafy floral sprigs flanking his shoulders, draped with a billowing scarf wearing a dhoti patterned with florets in gilt-lacquer, its loose folds falling over his crossed legs, the wood of a deep chestnut brown tone

Condition

Some of the inlaid hardstones, including the one at the top of the chignon, are likely to be later replacement. The arms, ends of the scarf, and the corners of the pedestal have probably been restuck, in addition to minor stabilised age cracks to the foot and base. The base plug has possibly been replaced. There are only some surface wear to the gilt decoration. But overall the figure is in good condition, including the divinity's fingers and hands.
