bidding is closed

Description

carved after the archaic ritual prototypes, the smoothly polished blade flaring to a rounded edge from a waisted handle flanked by three studs and set with a reclining horned animal finial, each side finely decorated in three registers divided by double lines, the blade with a taotie mask below a band of key-fret and stylized scrolls encircling the handle, the translucent stone of an even greenish-white colour with attractive yellow and pale brown veining

Condition

The overall condition is very good except for a minute nick (approx. 2 mm) on the muzzle of the animal. There is also a minute bruise to the edge of the axe. The actual colour is a fraction more tinged with celadon than in the catalogue illustration.
