Description

the pair potted with shallow rounded sides supported on a slightly tapered foot rising to a flaring rim, the interior painted in iron-red with five bats in flight, hovering within a double-line border in underglaze-blue repeated inside the rim, the exterior with alternating bats and shou symbols, the base inscribed with a six-character seal mark in underglaze-blue, together with a third dish similarly painted in iron-red with five confronting bats forming a central medallion and twelve others around the cavetto, the exterior with eight further bats, the base with a six-character seal mark in underglaze blue   

Condition

One of the pair of dishes has a 3 mm hairline to the rim, a few firing impurities in the white ground inside and outside. The other is in good condition with the exception of a couple of minor iron spots inside. The third smaller dish has a 5 mm chip restored to the rim.
