Catalogue Note
Although the theme of the beam is closely associated with Letendre's later work, it was pre-figured in her works of the late 1960s and was part of an evolution that came about quite gradually. The elongated triangles, precisely rendered and initially outlined by black, were superceded by compositions that relied on the juxtaposition of more and brighter colours to emphasize this favorite shape, and compositions for which Letendre experimented with the spray gun as for this lot.
