Catalogue Note

Gaucher's original relief prints of the early 1960s astonished artists and curators here in Canada and won major prizes in other countries. These works rapidly gave way to his geometric prints, culminating in the 1963 Homage to Webern trilogy (see lot 54), and set him on his long career as a painter of complex, abstract, and much-admired canvases.
