Catalogue Note
Untitled No. 5 belongs to a body of works with similarly-vertical orientations. The striped picture-plane swirls, swells and surges, recalling biomorphic growth, the standing figure, and modern cityscapes, among other allusions. Fleming notes that Meredith resisted explanation of his work, refering instead to that "mysterious quality that defeats explanation".
