Condition
The canvas has been relined. There are a handful of fine, faint lines of craquelure. Ultraviolet light reveals some areas of retouching, primarily in the snow, and notably to the rightmost quarter, below the sledge, above the rump of the grey horse, and along the extreme edges. The figures and horse are virtually untouched with the exception of some minor spots in the horses. The general appearance of the work is good and it is ready to hang.
Held in a wide dark-painted wood frame with a gilt inner ornament.
The snow is more yellow-blue rather than the dull grey of the catalogue illustration, and the sky richer.
