Condition
The panel is flat and even. Under ultraviolet light there is a handful of scattered spots of minor retouching notably addressing some tiny shallow indentations in the panel, and the varnish is more opaque in the left half of the composition, making a clear reading of the surface difficult under ultraviolet light. Apart from a lightly yellowed varnish, which could be addressed with a light surface clean, a tiny spot of paint flaking below the signature, and two spots of frame rubbing and a minor c. 3cm scratch in the centre of the extreme upper edge, overall this work is in good condition.
The colours in the catalogue illustration are overall accurate, however the pigments are slightly warmer, and the varnish somewhat more yellowed, in the original.
Held in a decorative gilt and black-painted frame, with a red velvet and gilt inner liner.
