Condition
The panel is flat and even. Ultraviolet light reveals some minor retouching, notably a thin diagonal line below the seated sheep in the lower centre, to scattered minor areas of the extreme edges addressing frame rubbing, and a few scattered tiny spots in the sky, and there are some localised areas where the varnish appears to be more opaque, for example in the flank of the seated sheep in the centre, in the neck of the one standing to the right, and in the right and below the signature, although these do not relate clearly to retouching. Apart from some scattered spots of frame rubbing at the extreme edges, overall this work is in good condition, and is ready to hang.
The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the colours are slightly deeper and less red in reality.
Held in a gilt decorative coved and fluted frame with laurel-leaf ornaments.
