Condition

The following condition report has been prepared by Hamish Dewar Ltd., of Mason's Yard, London SW1Y 6BU: UNCONDITIONAL AND WITHOUT PREJUDICE Structural Condition The painting is unlined and is securely attached to a keyed wooden stretcher. This is providing an even and secure structural support. Paint Surface The paint surface has an even varnish layer. There is a pattern of drying craquelure most notable in the sky and clouds and in the water and reflections in the lower left of the composition. These are entirely stable and are as a result of the natural drying processes of the artist's materials. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows fine lines of inpainting corresponding to some of the lines of craquelure mentioned above, most notably in the central part of the sky. There are also some small, scattered retouchings in the upper right of the sky and some minor lines of inpainting within the water in the lower left of the composition. Summary The painting therefore appears to be in very good and stable condition and no further work is required for reasons of conservation.
