Condition

The canvas has been relined. Ultraviolet light reveals quite extensive scattered areas of retouching, primarily in the sky, and some scattered spots below the horizon, and in the rightmost boat's sail. The signature appears to fluoresce slightly and may have been heightened in the past. There are some faint lines of craquelure, just visible in the catalogue illustration, and notably in the sky. Held in a decorative gilt frame. The colours are somewhat deeper in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
