Condition
The canvas has not been lined. Ultraviolet light reveals some clusters of spots of retouching, notably in the dark pigments near the upper part of the right edge and in the upper centre above the sitter's head (both areas presumably addressing paint shrinkage), and some thin strokes in the furniture behind her. Aside from some tiny spots in the pleat of her dress and her collar, the figure is virtually untouched. Overall this work is in good condition, and is ready to hang.
Held in a decorative gilt frame.
The catalogue illustration is broadly accurate, however the colours are somewhat cooler overall.
