Description

- A Healthy Appetite
- signed L Bechi lower left
- oil on canvas
- 102.2 by 85.3cm., 40¼ by 33½in.
Provenance
Acquired by the family of the present owner before the Second World War
Condition
The canvas has not been lined. Ultraviolet light reveals some scattered restorations (corresponding to eleven small patches on the reverse) which are sensitively-applied and are not particularly distracting to the naked eye, notably a 'T'-shaped repaired tear below the boy's right arm and two small repaired tears to the right of his coat. Apart from a very light horizontal stretcher mark in the centre, the overall appearance of the work to the naked eye is good and it is ready to hang.
The colours are deeper, and somewhat less red than in the catalogue illustration, which is otherwise accurate.
Held in a decorative reproduction narrow gold-painted frame.
