- Yiannis Tsarouchis
- Neoclassical House, Piraeus

- acrylic on canvas
- 135 by 255cm., 53 by 100½in.
Provenance
Iro Sismani (acquired from the artist. Sismani was a Greek choreographer and friend of the artist. Tsarouchis made stage sets and costumes for her productions); thence by descent to the present owner
Condition
The canvas has not been lined. Some of the grey pigments in the rocks to the right of the composition and in a strip in the balustrade in the upper left fluoresce under ultraviolet light, however these would certainly appear to be the artist's original pigments and not retouching. There is some surface dirt and the work would benefit from a surface clean, otherwise it is in good original condition.Held in a narrow modern gold-painted frame. The work is less red in reality than in the catalogue illustration, more orange and lighter.

Catalogue Note
This monumental work is the most important of Tsarouchis' dreamlike landscapes, and among the largest works the artist painted. A much smaller variant in watercolour (26 by 34cm), without the horse and rider in the centre, is in the collection of the National Bank of Greece.
