Description
- Vilmos Aba-Novák
- In the hills of Buda
- signed ABA-NOVAK lower right
- oil on canvas
- 45.5 by 64.5cm., 18 by 25½in.
Condition
The canvas has been relined. There are some fine lines of craquelure, primarily vertically, and the 'VAK' of the signature appears to have been rubbed (both visible in the catalogue illustration). Ultraviolet light reveals scattered spots of retouching addressing paint flaking, and some scattered unretouched spots of paint flaking, notably in the green pigments in the upper right corner (visible in the catalogue illustration).
Held in a modern varnished wood frame with a gold-painted inner accent.
The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the greens are richer in reality.
