Oil on cradled panel, which is flat and even, and is joined vertically a sixth from the left edge (the upper quarter of the join just visible under close inspection). A thick opaque varnish obscures a clear reading of the surface under ultraviolet light, however there appears to be some retouching, notably an area in the centre of the sitter's hair, a circa 3.5 by 3.5cm area in the green background above her hair, and two vertical strokes in the lower left of the green background. There are some spots of frame rubbing, notably in the upper centre of the extreme right edge. The work is overall in good condition.
Held in a decorative gilt and black-painted frame (probably painted by the artist), as visible in the catalogue illustration.
The catalogue illustration is broadly accurate, however the greens of the background are much more vibrant in reality.
