Exhibited

Berlin, Galerie Matthiesen, Das Stilleben in der deutschen und französischen Malerei von 1850 bis zur Gegenwart, 1927, no. 69, illustrated in the catalogue

Condition

The canvas has been relined. Ultraviolet light reveals some minor scattered fine lines of retouching, notably in the flowers in the centre, in the background to the right in the centre and to the left of the vase, and along the extreme lower edge addressing frame rubbing. Apart from a pattern of hairline craquelure (just visible in the catalogue illustration), overall this work is in good condition. The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the varnish is slightly more yellowed than in the illustration and the work could benefit from a light clean. Held in a decorative gilt wood and plaster frame.
