Description
- Carl Holsøe
- Girl in an Interior
- signed C Holsöe lower right
- oil on canvas
- 47 by 55cm., 18½ by 21¾in.
Provenance
Purchased by the great-grandfather of the present owner in Aarhus circa 1900
Condition
The canvas has been relined, apparently for purely conservational reasons, and not to address any restorations. Ultraviolet light reveals a handful of scattered tiny spots of retouching addressing paint flaking, and an uneven opaque varnish. Under close inspection there are some faint localised fine lines of craquelure, notably in the floor in the shadow of the piano. Overall this work is in good condition, and is ready to hang.
Held in a decorative gilt frame.
The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the colours are richer with more contrast in reality.
