Literature
Piero Dini & Francesca Dini, Giovanni Boldini, 1842-1931, Turin, 2002, vol. I, p. 153, listed; vol. III, p. 111, no. 182, catalogued & illustrated
Condition
The canvas has been strip-lined along the tacking edges. Ultraviolet light reveals some spots of retouching to the lower left of the vase, and a thick uneven varnish. Apart from some rubbing to the top of the 'B' of the signature, overall this work is in good condition, and is ready to hang.
Held in a decorative brown-painted frame, with gilt ornaments.
The colours in the catalogue illustration are overall accurate, however the man's red coat is a subtler and deeper road, and the illustration image is too sharpened.
