Provenance

Sale: Bonham's, London, 19 November 2002, lot 92
Purchased at the above sale by the present owner

Condition

The panel is flat and even, and has been inlaid into a thin outer liner along the extreme edges. Ultraviolet light reveals just a minor spot of retouching in the extreme upper left corner. This work is in very good original condition, and its appearance could be enhanced further with a surface clean. Held in a decorative faded-gilt painted frame. The painting itself is less red overall, and the colours richer in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
