Condition

(i) The canvas has not been lined. There appear to be two small repairs (c. 1cm), one in the right side of the sky and one in the sky upper left (these repairs are only visible on the reverse). Under UV light there are a few minor spots of retouching, notably in the sky upper right and upper left. There are some fine lines of vertical craquelure in the lower centre of the water. Overall this work is in good condition, clean and ready to hang. (ii)The canvas has not been lined. There appears to be a 2.5cm repaired tear in the water to the right of centre (only visible on the reverse). Under UV light there appear to be some areas of retouching, notably in the centre of the sky, in the left of the sky behind the masts and in the water right of centre. There is a fine vertical line of retouching in the centre of the sky addressing an old stretcher mark. This work is clean and ready to hang. These works are held in simple wooden frames with gilt liners.
