Description

  • Alcide Robaudi
  • Le peintre de plein air dans la foret de Fontainebleau
  • signed A Robaudi lower right
  • oil on panel
  • 40.2 by 68.4cm., 15¾ by 27in.

Condition

The panel is flat and even. Ultraviolet light reveals some minor scattered signs of retouching, notably a spot in the jacket and hat of the painter, in the hem of the navy-blue dress of the standing lady and a spot in the foot of the lady to the right of her (apart from which the figures are unretouched), a couple of small spots in the ground in the lower left, and above the rock in the middle-ground to the left, and scattered spots along the extreme edges addressing frame rubbing. The work is overall in good condition. Held in a decorative, ornamented coved and fluted gilt frame. The colours in reality are richer than in the catalogue illustration, especially the greens.
