Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. There is a craquelure pattern across the surface and a tiny pin hole to the left of the lighthouse. There are some tiny spots of staining; otherwise the work appears in good overall condition. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT Ultraviolet light reveals a small area of retouching in the upper right quadrant, which is faintly visible to the naked eye and probably relates to a former tear. Also a smaller spot in the sea near right side of the lower edge. FRAME Held in a gilt plaster frame.
