Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined; otherwise the work appears in good overall condition with some strong passages of impasto. It may benefit from a light clean. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT Ultraviolet light reveals an opaque varnish and some scattered areas of retouching along the upper left and upper right edges. FRAME Held in a gilt plaster frame.

Catalogue Note

Clare Collins, later Mrs. Gordon Douglas, was painted by de Glehn on several occasions. She appears in The Sisters, which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1927 and in a portrait following her marriage in 1928.
