Condition

STRUCTURE Original canvas. Being loose on its stretcher the surface undulates and may benefit from tightening. There are faint stretcher bar marks along the upper and lower edges. There are some areas of craquelure to the centre of the sky and across the foreground. The surface is slightly dirty. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT Under UV light there appear to be some retouchings to the rigging and to the figures on both the left and right-hand sides. The signature appears to have been strengthened (probably by the artist). FRAME Held in a gilt composite frame.
