4to (14 x 10 1/4 in.; 355 x 260 mm).  63 hand-colored lithographed plates by V. Fossat after drawings by the author, half-title.  19th-century half green morocco, spine gilt-lettered, marbled boards, marbled endleaves; minor wear and rubbing at extremities.

Catalogue Note

First edition.  Rare.  Barla was the director of the natural history museum at Nice.

A holograph note on an initial blank reads, "Bon de Manteuil.  Volume relié en 1887.  Une table des planches, dressé par moi et écrite à l'encre rouge, se trouve dans la table alphabétique de ce volume (pages 81–83).  1889 de N[ice]."  As stated, the table alphabétique is annotated in red ink in a very neat and almost miniscule hand by the first owner.
