Catalogue Note
A fine letter written in Twombly's celebrated scrawl, made famous by his graffitti-inspired paintings. In this letter, the artist mentions his travels: "After 1 month of blazing sun I went to the Dolomites where I froze myself to death. Now I am here watching the ships go by in clear fallish days." Twombly also invites the Richmond-based Clark to visit him at his Lexington, Virginia, home and wishes him luck on his upcoming exhibition in the Virginia capital. Twombly also enclosed a photocopy of a two-paragraph statement by critic G. Agamben on Twombly's recent sculpture. Twombly has inscribed the paper "How's this for a breath taker."
Also included is an autograph note signed ("Cy Twombly"), n.p., 20 March 1997, thanking Clark for the chance to look at slides of his work.
