8vo (8 1/8 x 5 5/8 in.; 206 x 143 mm).  Publisher's black cloth, lettered in white; head of spine repaired.  Original dust-jacket; tears expertly repaired.  Half red morocco clamshell case, spine lettered in gilt and with two black morocco lettering-pieces.

First edition.  Presentation copy inscribed in red crayon on the front free endpaper: "To Peter and Liza Fosbergh, Writing in red crayon in memory of The Red House.  Jack Kérouac (idiot). (St. Jack of the Germs) [last line in pencil]."

The Red House was a 1947 film directed by Delmer Davis, based on a novel by George Agnew Chamberlain, and starring Edward G. Robinson, Judith Anderson, Rory Calhoun, and Julie London.
