Catalogue Note

In the early 1880s, Greenaway took to painting landscapes, drawing her inspiration from cottages from the Witley countryside in Surrey where her close friend and adviser, Edmund Evans, kept a house. She became a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1885, and exhibited this watercolor, possibly about the same time as her induction.
