Autograph letter signed ("A. Lincoln"), one page (8 x 4 3/4 in.; 150 x 120 mm, sight), Executive Mansion, 18 September 1861, to Secretary of State William Henry Seward, authorizing the appointment of Antonio Buchignani as Secretary to the Legation to Rome, provided Seward has no objections. Matted, glazed, and framed with a three-quarter length portrait photograph of Lincoln (3 x 2 in.; 75 x 50 mm) by Brady's & Co.
