"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. All dimensions in catalogue descriptions are approximate. Condition reports may not specify mechanical replacements or imperfections to the movement, case, dial, pendulum, separate base(s) or dome. Watches in water-resistant cases have been opened to examine movements but no warranties are made that the watches are currently water-resistant. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Catalogue Note
Over a decade of thanks. The present correspondence provides a fragmented picture of what was a long and warm friendship. Einstein expresses gratitude for kindnesses extended to him by Roth over the years. Five of his letters to Roth express heartfelt thanks for the gift of Florida fruit. In his letter of 30 March 1942, Einstein gently declines leading an unidentified committee, "especially since I have turned down so many similar offers." Only in his letter of 16 October 1953 does Einstein make a heartfelt request. For many years, Einstein involved himself in the American Committee for Emigre Scholars, Writers and Artists. He explains: "I . . . feel strongly that the American Committee should be given continuing support of understanding American citizens and institutions." He notes a member of the committee will be phoning Roth for an appointment. In closing he writes: "May I express the personal hope that you will be able to contribute to the success of this important endeavor."
