Catalogue Note

First edition. "This voyage became one of the most important ever made in the interests of geographical knowledge" (Hill). Vancouver, who had served on Captain Cook's second and third voyages, was appointed commander of the expedition to survey the establishments of other powers on the northwest coast of North America, and to find a possible passage to the Atlantic. Vancouver died en route and the present work was published by his brother John with the assistance of Captain Peter Puget.
