Catalogue Note
A lively depiction of the beloved and iconic Scarecrow, which was one of 12 illustrations that Neill created and used as the frontispiece for Baum's The Scarecrow of Oz. While Neill's illustrations for the Oz books appear with some regularity at auction, no depictions of Baum's principal characters have appeared in decades. No other art for The Scarecrow of Oz is known to have survived.
