A fine group of 5 papers on comparative anatomy. Hunter (1728-1793), a distinguished surgeon, was an early advocate of observation and scientific method in medicine. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1767. All the following papers were published in that institution's journal:



"Observations tending to show that the Wolf, Jackal, and Dog, are all of the same Species" [bound with:] "Observations on the structure and oeconomy of whales" extracts from Philosophical Transactions 77 (1787), pages 253-266 & 371-450, printed on pale blue paper, large paper copy on blue paper, 4to, 8 engraved folding plates; light marginal spotting to a few plates. Norman 1121. — "An Account of the Gymnotus Electricus," extract from Philosophical Transactions 65 (1775), pages 395-407, 3 folding engraved plates with 4 images (some offset). — plus a related work by Johannes Mueller.
