A Kashgar silk and metal-thread rug, East Turkestan

The colours are tonally fairly accurate with the pale blue and light yellow, green and orange silk against a silvered metal ground. In reality the design is clearer and with more definition. The metal thread ground has tarnished in colour (commensurate with technique and age). Pile generally 2mm, and lower. There is an area of repair to the centre (approx. 5 by 6cm), and small areas of repair to other areas. Blacks are completely oxidised and there are some scattered areas of repiling of the knots. Flat weave end with fringe, both ends.
