Description

  • steel and jade
the slender curved and tapering steel blade with gold overlaid inscription and date to both sides, the agate hilt pinned with stylised palmettes and foliage, the gilt quillons in the form of shells, the scabbard wholly carved with armoury motifs and stylised foliate designs

Condition

overall in good condition, some rubbing and patination, one minor crack in the jade, but secure, as viewed.

A sword with a similar couplet was sold in these rooms 24 October 2007, lot 259.
