Description

  • Ink & Gouache on Paper
Gouache heightened with gold on paper, 9 lines to the page, written in nasta'liq script in black ink within 4 columns separated by double intercolumnar gold rules, reverse with 21 lines of text with one illuminated heading in blue against a ground of scrolling gold vines

Condition

In reasonably good overall condition, some waterstaining, trimmed on one vertical edge, colours generally bright, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

The present painting comes from a manuscript of Nizami's Khamsa dated 901 AH/1496 AD, that was originally sold in these rooms 11 December 1968, lot 149. Further paintings from the same manuscript were also sold 8 October 2008, lot 38; 15 October 2003, lot 23, 30 April 2003, lots 27-28 and 25 April 2002, lots 35-36.
