Arabic manuscript on paper, 392 leaves, 13 lines to the page written in neat Naskh script in black ink, verses separated by varying gold florets, some segmented, others pointed in red and blue, surah headings in white against gold-ground cartouches, within rectangular panels filled with polychrome flowers with patterned borders, text boxes ruled in gold, black and red, catchwords, opening double-page illuminated frontispiece in colours and gold, the ground punched with cintimani motifs, doublures with tooled medallions and ropework borders, fine gilt-stamped red morocco binding comprising chinoiserie cloud bands and tight-knit interlacing arabesque motifs, with flap

In good overall condition, ink bold and illumination bright, a few very minor stains and smudges, some wear to binding, and spine, as viewed.

Catalogue Note
Folio 2a bears a seal impression of al-Hajj Muhammad 'Arif al-Maulawi. Ibrahim Kemali studied calligraphy under the supervision of Hafiz Osman Efendi (d.1698) and was appointed tutor to the school built by Kathuda Bey Agha, near the Cagaloglu Palace, Istanbul. He died in 1730. This Qur'an can be compared with another copied by the same scribe and dated 1097 AH/1685-6 AD, included in the exhibition The 1400th Anniversary of the Qur'an, Istanbul, 2010, pp.426-27, no.118.
