Persian manuscript on paper, 8 lines to the page, written in nasta'liq script in black ink on the left hand side of the page, surmounted by a tughra in red and a large seal impression
Condition
In good overall condition, some creases (has once been folded), a few waterstains, otherwise good, as viewed.

The letter bears the tughra of Dara Shikoh with the regnal date 1065 (1654-5 AD).
The present letter, from Dara Shikoh to a certain Haransingh Rawat, acknowledges the receipt of his letter and that he should come as soon as possible and will be honoured with a high post on arrival. At the time that this letter was sent, Dara Shikoh was fighting his brother Awrangzeb in Deorai near Ajmir, and would go on to be defeated, being executed in August 1659, the same year that the letter to hand was written.
